Tweet Handmade

Well do you tweet? Have a twitter account? Well if you don’t it is time that you consider it, twitter is one of the tops sites in the world and is a very good avenue for getting your work noticed. The Handmade Artists’ Shop tweets almost every product or as much as we can, just search the hashtag #HAFshop and you’ll find us.

Handmade Twitter PromotionI’m not sure how you personally use twitter, if you feel it is a personal social network or if you use it strictly for business. My suggestion is that you create an account for personal and an account for business. The real key is followers, the more followers the more broad of a reach you have the better. So keeping a personal account with  20k followers is not that easy unless you are just highly organized. There are many ways to get followers, the easiest is to follow others and they will likely follow you back. Content is king though, make sure your putting out some decent tweets about your work. One of our keys to success it to not always promote ourselves, we 99% of the time promote others and that will really help get you noticed. You might say why would promoting others help me, well I think karma comes into play here, give and you shall receive.

Do you re-tweet? Well this is another important part of social networking, engage with others on a  regular basis. If you spend a few minutes daily tending to your twitter account your following and clout will build daily. There are some free tools out there that you can use to assist you with your twitter promotions as well. I use a site called Social Oomph, there are many others  but social oomph was one of the originals and I’ve stuck with it. With sites like this you can schedule tweets for the day so that they are spread out. You can also automatically follow those that follow you and then some. I think if you take the time to nurture this part of promoting your work you will not be disappointed with the results.

Selling handmade online takes a lot of work but if you do a little each day to promote your shop and get your name out there you’ll build a brand and following over time. Don’t burn yourself out, do a little everyday, this  is more effective in the long run than working hours on end and then doing nothing for a week. Trust us, we know from experience, be consistent and continue doing what works.

I could go on and on about this topic as there are many tools and strategies out there on how to do this. I’m sure some work better than others, but the bottom line is, if you’re serious about building an online presence you need to do it. Twitter is just scratching the surface on how to brand your work and name. We’ll get into more suggestions as time permits. In the meantime make sure you stop by our Twitter page for the Handmade Artists’ Shop! Please remember, support handmade not mass produced. 😀

You are so right! I used Twitter a lot, but have fallen by the wayside and it shows. I need to get back in the groove there. Also, Thank you for promoting all of us! It is one of those things that makes HAFshop so special! 🙂

  • Great topic! Tweet Tweet! I’m going to take a look at Social Oomph, thank you for suggesting.

And… TRusk4U is right on the money… HAFshop is AWESOME! Thank you for creating this unique place for handmade artists, to share our ideas, help support each other, make new friends… and be a part of something GRAND! ;o)

  • Thank you for the great post. I have been using twitter and facebook, plurk, and even stumbleupon lately. I try to schedule post thru hootsuite regularly. I retweet others, leave comments, I leave comments on blogs. I try to do everything I can to get my name out there, and it seems like I spend a lot of time doing all of this. But I still feel like I’m not making much progress.
Then I found the Handmade Artist Forum And HAFshop their great and so helpful, now I feel like I’m not all alone. I agree with Trusk4u, the HAFshop is special. I haven’t seen a place that supports and promotes like the HAFshop does. Thank you. You are greatly appreciated.

Great article and ideas! One of these days I’ll get back into tweeting all the other promoting stuff on a more regular basis – but until then – I’ll do what I can!
Thank you so much for HAF & HAFShop

On a serious note… Twitter is very important to your online presence as well as promoting others along the way, it makes good business!
